in iizuka them found a common ground: based in hokkaido, japan, iizuka does not share the same london influences, yet shares their base values and thrust. common themes of his sound involve broken and syncopated beats, and a rave energy. this is what lead him to being the first and prime them stable artist. voodoo ep showcases this breadth of iizuka’s style, from tracks that could easily fit into any grime set, such as primitive acid, to the more melodic tones of floating point, in which hiroaki guides them into previously untrodden ground for the imprint.

michael klein trip image is a juggernaut of modular thrumming and pulses, ushering a cacophony synthetic noise and pulsing percussion. trip image holds true to being hallucinogenic and raw, chittering insect-like synths with angular drumming. taste starts off as a frisky cacophony of blips that builds into a proper darkroom mover. the modular synths and bass are offset properly with the tension that breathes in whisper. the cascade of glitchy bells and pulsing beat define touch throughout the piece. smell has thrumming drums which cement the raw, groaning bass to its foundation.

ltd repress! dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection, the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven, whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

2020 repress !! about the bamboo recordings: jacobus derwort started exploring sonic soundscapes listening to his short-wave world receiver at the age of 12. there he would hear music from africa, china, japan, indonesia, south america and beyond. he started playing guitar, piano, percussion and saxophone. he met hanyo van oosterom in 1978 and they started the legendary cult rock band, the jones . derwort was playing the sax, van oosterom the drums. they started conducting sound experiments in hanyo’s small cellar in the dutch village of krimpen aan den ijssel. in the early eighties they made their first cassette, the kallikatsou . hanyo started the ambient collective chi in 1983. jacobus was the first musician to join chi. together, they went to the magic rock “the kallikatsou” on the island of patmos, greece. here, hanyo had stayed for months in a cave for some deep soul-searching. he heard the sound of chi in the silence of the night like a message from out of space. being together at the kallikatsou they shaped the foundation of chi, making handmade flutes from local bamboo and conducting field recordings of water, crickets, owls, goats, wind, etc...
